About 17 Abberbury Road
The front garden has a lavender border along the house and a mature hydrangea border along the opposite fence. There is also a bed of peony and Hylotelephium, which was inspired by the RHS Garden at Wisley.
Alongside the house, leading to the half acre landscaped garden is a pergola with wisteria, rambling roses and vines as well as blackberries and loganberries. The back garden is entered via the pergola at the lowest level, next to a wildlife pond which is the bottom of a water feature that runs down a rocky path from a formal pond below the house. Planting in the borders around the house and the two decks comprises a mixture of perennials, roses and ornamental trees. Below the chestnut and sycamore trees is a bed of Hellebores.
The lower garden, reached through a trellis with climbing roses and honeysuckle, is a circular lawn surrounded by mature borders designed by the owner’s sister. Mature Hebes, Photinia and viburnum are planted with lilac trees, a malus floribunda, all against a backdrop of large pines in the neighbouring garden. Two steps down from the lawn are six vegetable beds and a greenhouse which produce crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, beans, courgettes, lettuce, herbs. Two arches of sweet peas are a new feature of this vegetable patch.
