About 41 Mill Lane
We returned to the house in 2017 and set about transforming the concrete mass to what is now a horticultural melting pot. First project was the front garden removing concrete hexagon paving and scalloped edging to reveal original granite blocks. We planted roses, hellebores, Japanese anemone, alchemilla conjuncta, bearded iris, narcissi tete a tete and snowdrops. That was the easy bit.
Then the work in the back garden began after much thought and many designs later settling on one which used the well as the start and everything radiated out from there. We now have curved gravel paths edged with steel and softened with plants. A circular lawn is edged by bricks recovered from the garden clearance, and a Scottish corner has cobbles and a curved bench from the Isle of Skye. The well has become the circular table with a beautiful metal frame that follows the radius of the well with espalier apple trees. Many bulbs such as alliums and tulips make a mass of colour through out spring. Although some may say it is now complete I have plans to further develop the garden which will bring more interest in the following years.
