7 Nightingale Close

A cottage garden with mixed planting, changing with the seasons and each yr as new schemes and plantings are tested. Roses feature through June into July, followed by perennials and grasses in late summer. A steep bank leads down to a stream, with stepped access and a narrow path along a new streamside walk. A bonsai collection, a potager vegetable area, and wonderful views across the fields.

About 7 Nightingale Close

This garden has been developed over the past 16 years to become a mixed, cottage garden which looks good in all seasons. In winter, a backbone of evergreen shrubs and colourful stems are joined by early bulbs and Hellebores. Spring is a riot of colour from bulbs enhancing the early perennials and foliage, researching different colour schemes each year. By late Spring the stream walk is full of Iris and Primula with fern fronds starting to unfurl. Early summer brings the height of the cottage effect with over 50 roses enhanced by Clematis and perennial planting in varying combinations. Late summer sees another riot of colour in the herbaceous borders, complimented by billowing grasses and the steep bank comes to life with grasses and prairie planting. The Autumn colours are enhanced by the mists over the fields behind. Over the years the owners have worked to overcome the challenges of dry shade, stream planting, flooding, deer damage, frost pocket and steep slopes. Creating a family friendly space packed with plants with lots of seating areas to relax and enjoy the garden.
