About 73 Fawnbrake Avenue
This is a garden of art and music lovers, Jorge Sanchez (a professional artist) and Alan Oliver. Art and music provide much of the inspiration for this small, plant packed garden which erupts into a riot of colour along its winding paths in summer. Planting focuses on colour and attractiveness to pollinators: including iris, gaura, lythrum, watsonia, crocosmia, kniphofia, alstroemeria, astrantia, verbena bonariensis. There are apple trees, a plum, and a pear. Space is allocated for raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, and herbs. Drama and height are provided by climbing roses, buddleia, a deciduous sequoia, golden bamboo, and a large twisted willow, salix contorta.
Features include a secluded sitting area by a wildlife pond; a small patio almost hidden by lush planting; and a more formal deck with potted acers.
Jorge opens his home studio and gallery from time to time as part of various ‘Artists Open House’ events (info on his website, www.sanchezart.co.uk). He is opening his garden for the NGS for the first time this year on the suggestion of a number of those visitors.
