Avenue Cottage

11 acre woodland valley garden containing many rare and unusual trees and shrubs with views over the River Dart AONB. Azaleas, hydrangeas and magnolias are a speciality. A spring rising in the garden under a massive rhododendron feeds two ponds and a small stream running through a meadow with mown paths. Openings require pre-booking due to limited parking. If coming on foot, visitors can pay at the gate.

About Avenue Cottage

A peaceful, 1I-acre woodland valley garden forming part of the Grade II* Sharpham House Landscape. Paths winding up through rare and native trees and shrubs offer extensive views over the River Dart and surrounding countryside. Spring Magnolias are followed by a collection of scented azaleas. Later there are Eucryphias, Hoherias and many Hydrangeas, including macrophyllas in the purple/blue spectrum doing especially well. There is also a stumpery made with trees felled on site in 1944. It is a naturalistic garden with plenty of room for wild flowers. The new verandah and the refreshment area offer spectacular views.
