About Canonbury Gardens
No picnics in gardens but space in nearby parks, such as Canonbury Square and Highbury Fields.
Unique opportunity to visit six private gardens in this leafy and pretty part of historic Islington, along the New River Walk. These gardens only open under the NGS. Planted sympathetically to support biodiversity. There are beehives at 19 Alwyne Villas (avoid if allergic). Enjoy the topiary fish outside 29 Canonbury Park North, the well planted contrasts of 10 Alwyne Villas and 4b Alwyne Road, and discover how individual owners enjoy their spaces and reflect their personalities. Each garden has been adapted to its urban setting with pots, espaliered fruit trees, and colour palettes from calm whites to the hot. All gardens are within a 10 min walk of each other, making for a fabulous afternoon outing. Maps and signage will be provided, inc a walk along the New River. Plants for sale at certain gardens. Dogs are welcome on leads. Please note: Entrance to most gardens involve steep steps and uneven, narrow paths. Some have ponds. No wheelchair access.

Directions to Canonbury Gardens
Please Note: A parade from 2pm until about 3pm celebrating Arsenal’s league win will significantly impact the area. As Canonbury Gardens are very close to the route, disruption is expected. Please avoid driving, roads will be closed. Highbury & Islington tube, Essex Road & Canonbury overground stations will now be closed until later in the day. Nearest tube: Angel Station (10 min walk or bus via Essex Road). Buses on Upper Street affected due to road closures. Transport may ease after 3pm, but pubs and surrounding areas will be busy. The council warns movement around the borough and parade route will be difficult. A lively atmosphere is expected; the route between the gardens should be fine. Also note the New River Walk on the map will be closed but access alongside roads possible. All information is on the Arsenal website Champions Parade: What you need to know and TfL for transport.
