About Isaacson's
Isaacson’s was formerly a medieval Lodging Range and is built of Clunch, a form of soft limestone, on a limestone outcrop. The hints of Snowdonia are through slate, ferns and water; the Mediterranean from Oleander, Acanthus and Hibiscus. There are also unusual apples (Five Crown Pippin, Court Pendu Plat, Cornish Gilliflower etc) and a variety of old-fashioned and wall-trained fruits eg Medlar, apricots and peaches; a collection of epimediums; old-fashioned dianthus, plenty of roses, paeonies and much else.
As you walk around the garden you will move between different ‘zones’ and a common comment is that ours is a really ‘three-dimensional’ garden. For example, we have converted a typical ground-cover rose into an obelisk and use arches to link and draw the eye up. The garden has been awarded first prizes in the village garden competitions especially for greatest diversity of planting. We have successfully welcomed international garden study groups in previous years and have many repeat visitors to see what we have done that is new (there is always something!).
