About Morland House Gardens
Morland House Gardens date from the 11th century and were glebe lands until the1830s, when the Rev Markham bought the property from the church.
The gardens offer many contrasting features, from the formal gardens and croquet lawn of the upper garden to the naturalistic beck walk and Victorian quarry garden, currently under restoration, beyond the beck. It is a peaceful place which reveals itself gradually, with surprises at every turn. The quarry, in particular, feels like a secret garden where history, botany and nature play an equal role.
Today the gardens are maintained according to organic principles, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity, with a good collection of fruit trees, including rare, historical and local varieties.
