About Restore Hope Community Garden

Nestled in the heart of the Chiltern countryside with a rare and precious chalk stream, the 360 acre Restore Hope estate is the tranquil setting for the Restore Hope Community Garden.

Restore Hope is a charity which works with families in crisis. Our Community Garden is run on the principles of Social and Therapeutic Horticulture which simply means using gardening to help people feel better, physically and emotionally.

Established 25 years ago to provide a safe, peaceful space for our beneficiary families to work, learn, grow and laugh together in, the garden is the meeting place for our Grow and Gather group. We grow a variety of flowers, fruit and vegetables for both consumption and crafting purposes. The garden is constantly changing to meet the needs of our beneficiary families and their input on what we grow is an important part of their ownership of and agency within the space.

A visit to the estate means that you will view both the Community Garden and have access to the Market Garden, a new but very important part of the FoodLife programme which Restore Hope have been running since 2020. Supporting over 180 families in the local area, the Market Garden provides the fruit and vegetable produce for the food boxes which are distributed through our network of amazing volunteers.

The Market Garden produce is a mixture of trusted staples but also provides a space for trialling less common vegetables such as malabar spinach. It allows us to meet the primary need of the families by providing much required food but also to engage them in cooking courses to create a focus on nutritious eating from a sustainable food source.

No trip to us would be complete without saying hello to the variety of animals on site. Ponies, sheep and goats all ‘work’ as therapy animals for children with supported needs, our 180 + chickens provide the eggs for our foodbox programme and the pigs just provide a lot of amusement!

We look forward to welcoming you to our space and sharing our story with you.
