About Southwood Hall

Southwood Hall is a historically significant grade 2* listed building dating from 1660 (not open). The gardens and grounds have been created since the house’s recent restoration to sympathetically blend in and are in continual development under the guidance of head gardener Justin The Gardener. There is a secret walled garden brimming with an eclectic variety of planting along with Alice in Wonderland sculptures and a dipping pool with fountain. Beyond this is the Pottering Garden, leading to the orchard under-planted with herbaceous & wildflowers. Adjacent is the potting shed, greenhouse and an impressive composting facility. The paths all lead you to the eight large raised beds which are planted up with produce, herbaceous & a mint collection with seasonal additions. The formal front garden has been designed with an Euonymous parterre and softened with natural planting. Beyond the front garden is the paddock, planted with a variety of interesting trees and several sculptures. There are long borders along the extensive rear driveway which are especially attractive in the Spring.

Paths and driveway are gravel, site is mostly level, extensive areas of grass, walled garden is accessed by two small steps with a portable ramp available if required, further gravel paths. Plenty of seating
