About St Joseph's Hospice
Designed by donation, patients have enjoyed the gardens at St Joseph’s Hospice for over 120 years. The gardens are a tribute to the generosity of our friends, from the tiered fountain in the Koi pond, to the palm in the Mediterranean garden, and the banana in the tropical bed. even the Koi themselves. There are plants here from all over the world, representing the wish of someone to add a little bit to the mosaic of form and colour in the garden for other people to enjoy.
The historic urn, filled with flowers, near the Wisteria, has been with us since the beginning.
and the statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Christ reminds us that the Hospice was founded by the Religious Sisters of Charity whose voluntary work established palliative care in East London and inspired Dame Cecily Saunders.
