About Stagshaw House

Stagshaw House is a Grade II listed country house dating to the early 1500s with many later additions that affords sweeping views over landscaped gardens and the Tyne Valley. Entered via an avenue of ancient limes the extensive grounds include original walled garden areas, parkland and terraced herbaceous and shrub borders. A particular feature is the woodland with paths passing below mature rhododendrons, azaleas and specimen trees leading to the listed private chapel. Many of these original plants were collected from the Himalayas on plant hunting expeditions in the days when 20 gardeners tended the grounds. Much of the walled vegetable garden is now a home for alpacas but parts of the original glasshouses and vegetable growing areas have been restored and returned to productive use.
