About The Yeo Valley Organic Garden at Holt Farm
The garden is one of contrasts. Formal structural planting is used to create a number of individual gardens, notably in the glasshouse garden where pleached Malus ‘Red Sentinel’ and hedges create strong features. The more informal parts of the garden are designed to give a relaxed contemporary feel and include a Yurt meadow, Spring meadow, a birch grove and streamside garden.
In spring the woodland is carpeted with wood anemones, primroses and bluebells with thousands of tulips around the rest of the garden. Late spring sees the cammasias in the meadows and the flowering of the tea crab avenue.
In summer the bronze and gravel gardens provide the “wow” factor. The gravel garden is filled with colour, shape and movement achieved by a tapestry of planting. Autumnal fireworks are provided by late perennial seedheads, grasses and the tea crab apple avenue.
Grasses are used extensively to reflect the surrounding landscape and link the garden to the Mendips to the south and to Blagdon Lake to the north.
The “heart” of the garden is the compost yard where we make our own organic compost, compost teas and plant tonics to keep the garden in good health.
Regular opening: Our Gardens are open from 10th April – 27th September 2025 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Visitors can enjoy light refreshments in the garden café and we are delighted to open the garden shop offering Yeo Valley products, along side a carefully curated selection of goodies.
