About Thirsk Hall
Thirsk Hall is a Grade II* listed townhouse completed by York architect John Carr in 1777 and the home of the Bell family ever since. Lying to the west of the house are an unexpected 20 acres of grounds include formal lawns, a kitchen garden, potting sheds, walled paddocks and parkland beyond a ha-ha, all in the shadow of the magnificent Perpendicular Gothic St Mary’s Church.
The present layout and planting are the result of a sensitive restoration – blending formal and informal beds, herbaceous borders, shrubbery and mature trees.
The gardens are the home of Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden showcasing modern and contemporary art. In addition to the outdoor sculptures there are also two indoor gallery spaces within the garden, The Orangery and Gallery One
Wheelchair access.
