About 66 Abbots Gardens
Evolved from a complementary harmonious combination of garden design and artefacts: Stephen studied at Capel Manor and Ruth is a stained glass and mosaic artist. This garden was inspired by the innovatory design philosophy of Thomas Church (1902-1978) and has been created for tranquility and year-round interest using plant form, texture, a restricted colour palette and a strong asymmetrical geometry to create a calming yet dramatic environment. South facing (20mx10m) gently undulating main lawn, surrounded by grasses, herbaceous, perennials, ornamental shrubs and trees. Fused glass amphorae and feathers catch the eye amongst the plants whilst a mosaic forms the backdrop to the main water feature. A rose bedecked archway leads to a quiet and secluded area with discreet vegetable plot, silver birches and a second gentle water feature with seating area. Circular front lawn is enclosed by grasses, herbaceous, shrubs and arched hedge. ‘Guerilla planting’ in the public space along the pavement outside and beyond creates a borrowed landscape with all year interest.
