About Blackland House
This Arne Maynard designed private garden has developed over the last twenty years with the current owners who now run a specialist flower growing and floristry business (Bayntun Flowers). The sympathetically restored walled garden is set against a Georgian coach house and works as a micro-climate and trial ground for flowers, fruit and interesting vegetables. Polly Nicholson is holder of the National Collection of Tulipa (Historic) with Plant Heritage, and specialises in other unusual flower groups. This is a rare opportunity to see the garden in autumn, where monumental containers will be spilling over with dahlias, zinnias and grasses. In contrast to the more formal framework of the garden there are naturalised areas, a woodland planting overlooking the River Marden and an old grotto. A new addition to the garden ‘Bridge Walk’ is under construction and winds its way back and forth over the Marden. The garden is run along organic principles and is fully certified with the Soil Association UK.
