About Blackland House

This Arne Maynard designed private garden has developed over the last fifteen years with the current owners who now run a specialist flower growing and floristry business (Bayntun Flowers). The recently restored walled garden is set against a Georgian coach house and works as a micro-climate and trial ground for flowers, fruit and vegetables. Polly Nicholson is holder of the National Collection of Tulipa (Historic) with Plant Heritage, and an interesting selection of these will be be in flower at the time of opening, along with perennialized plantings of annual and species tulips. In contrast to the more formal framework of the garden there are naturalised areas, a woodland planting overlooking the River Marden and an old grotto. A new addition to the garden ‘Bridge Walk’ is under construction and winds its way back and forth over the Marden. The garden is run along organic principles and is fully certified with the Soil Association UK.
