About Heathercombe
Heathercombe is a tranquil, secluded valley through which streams tumble down from Hameldown – through woods, ponds & a beautiful lake. Ideal for a peaceful walk (and dogs on leads are welcome) along up to two miles of mainly level sandy paths, with time to pause on some of the many benches and summer houses to take in the sights, sounds and scents of Heathercombe’s natural environment and garden features. Self service teas and coffees are available and visitors are welcome to bring picnics. There is disabled car parking close to the disabled toilet and tea room.
There are 30 acres of spring and summer interest – and much recent planting. At the end of March and early April spring arrives in Heathercombe with drifts of daffodils. From mid-May to early June the valley is adorned with carpets of bluebells and large displays of rhododendrons, azaleas and pieris, as well as camellias, magnolias and other shrubs. Later in June the garden of the Dartmoor longhouse and the wild flower meadow in the orchard of Westcountry apple trees come into their own. In addition, there is an arboretum of interesting and unusual specimen trees, bog and fern gardens, a developing woodland garden of shrubs and flowering trees, interesting bryophytes and woodland walks – and numerous sculptures to enjoy.
