About Hollinside
This 1930s plot still has the original stone terraced front garden which is shaded by a large and beautiful copper beech tree. An espalier fruit walkway is a recent addition and there are borders containing a mixture of shrubs and herbaceous planting. The garden wraps around the house and the side section has a large lime tree creating cover for shade loving plants and shrubs.
The rear garden has formal features; topiary yews, box balls and a box parterre. Two topiary spiral yews mark the edge of a wild flower meadow planted in a circle. This long summer meadow was sown 20 years ago and is now well established. The wild flowers within it steal the show every year. It provides interest from February to August but is at its prettiest in June when the common spotted orchids are abundant. The mixed borders throughout the garden feature roses and perennial plants, annuals and shrubs that are chosen carefully to perform well within our windy site and evoke the ‘English garden’ style that gives interest across the seasons.
There is a wild life pond with water lilies and stickleback which is bordered by a rock and gravel garden; creating a good habitat for frogs, dragonflies and other visiting wildlife.
A Victorian style greenhouse is key to providing new plants for the garden and a much loved and prominent feature.
Plants grown here in the garden will be on sale along with tea and cakes.
