About Little Caerlicyn

Nestled on the hillside above Langstone, with commanding views over the Severn Estuary sits a renovated Tudor cottage and barn. The farm animals have long since gone, but the farm is now an established and growing commercial flower business.
The grounds are naturally divided into three key areas, with the fourth, a woodland walk, in development. The first area is a cottage garden with rose beds, wildflower area and a summerhouse tucked in between fruit trees. This area had previously been a water logged field for growing watercress. The owners are now experimenting with a small bog garden complete with gunnera and other marginal plants.
The second area is the small flower field, the main working area. Many different varieties of cut flowers are grown in allocated perennial beds with an alternating array of annual species. In this area there is also an established willow wigwam, fruit cage, grape vines, asparagus and rhubarb beds. No two seasons are the same. Bee hives sit lower down in their own wildflower meadow.
The owners use a no dig approach to developing new beds with wood chip and mulching used as weed suppressants. They do not use chemical fertilisers or weedkillers, choosing to use companion planting and manual removal to keep detrimental insects at bay. Several log piles and ‘bug hotels’ are dotted around the property to support wildlife.
The main family garden, with rose arches, long bed and ancient mulberry tree is the perfect place to admire the view.
