About Little Court
This garden is 3 acres including the meadow. Snowdrops, later in February thousands of scented crocus tommasinianus have naturalised under the Victorian apple trees, giving an unforgettable spectacle . These are followed by Narcissi ‘White Lady’, then snakes-head Fritillaries, finally scarlet Tulip sprengeri in late May.
In spring and summer there is a succession of perennial herbaceous plants, and climbers on the walls and an immaculate lawn.
There are seven contrasting sections of the garden, divided by ancient flint walls. Grass paths link the different parts.
The ‘goose garden’ has a close mown circular path with a mass of naturalised cowslips and primroses. There is a traditional walled kitchen garden with vegetables and fruit, and colourful free range bantams. Beyond two gates, the meadow has English wild flowers, and secret seats. There is an unspoilt panoramic view to the South and East. There are many butterflies, specially in July. Some visitors like this part best.
The garden appeals to all ages. It is a favourite with photographers, having appeared in many magazines and books; it was featured in the RHS The Garden and Country Life magazines in June 2021, and Gardens Illustrated in January 2022 featuring the snowdrops.
