About Lower Clapton Gardens
Lower Clapton is an area of mid-Victorian terraces sloping down to the R Lea. These gardens reflect their owner’s tastes and interests. No. 10 Almack Road is a long garden with architectural plants like trachycarpus palms and dracaenas, offset with York stone and London brick. A large pond encourages toads, newts and dragonflies. Next door at 8 Almack Road is a similar space but divided into two garden rooms: cool colours with grass and shrubs close to the house and a secluded hot garden at the far end, including warm colours, succulents and a greenhouse, with a large blue agave nicknamed Audrey. 77 Rushmore Rd has a fruit and vegetable garden and wildlife pond and was a runner up in Yorkshire Gold’s ‘Great British Garden 2018’.
