Newton Cottage

Sunny gravel gardens, a large informal lawn and woodland trees complement the views of fields and pastures. Familiar plants are used in a naturalistic style with carefully edited self-seeding invaders. It’s visited by a wide variety of wildlife, not all beneficial! This is the inspiration for Pamela’s artwork which will be on display in the studio along with a selection of Gethyn’s paintings.

About Newton Cottage

A long career in art and design has led Pamela to create this garden on the edge of town, overlooking pastures and fields. Ornamental grasses are combined with perennials and bulbs. Strategically positioned benches help to capture the views throughout the year making it a very tranquil garden. The 1960’s property was developed about 15 years ago by a local architect and the garden was, pretty much, a blank canvas. The soil is mostly heavy clay mixed with rubble due to the building work, therefore growing conditions and cultivation can be a challenge. It can be very wet in winter and baked dry in summer. Evergreen herbs are grown both for the kitchen and ornamentally, while seasonal salad crops grow in large containers to keep off the local bunnies! Due to Pamela’s obsessive plant propagating and inability to throw anything away, the plant sale will be awesome!
