Old Common Wood

Protected conservation area, originally an intensively farmed seven acre field, that was once part of Thelmelthorpe common. A wood created in1991 with 1000 native trees, diversified by local woodland plants, inc rare Black Poplars grown from cuttings of an ancient specimen. Colourful flower meadow with mown paths leading to wetland area and ponds where orchids flourish in summer.

About Old Common Wood

Woodland paths have been created and footpaths mown for walking around the meadow and ponds. Children welcome although need good supervision as the ponds are deep.
No dogs please as there are ground nesting birds.
Home-made refreshments are served in the barn in aid of a local charity.
