About Plant World
Plant World consists of four acres of landscaped hilltop gardens representing each of the five continents with a mature cottage garden and also a Mediterranean garden and has been called Devon’s ‘little outdoor Eden’. Located between Torquay and Newton Abbot in beautiful South Devon, it offers an outstanding collection of rare and exotic flowers, trees and shrubs from around the world, many of which can be bought in the adjacent rare plant nursery. Established in 1985, Plant World is the culmination of a plantsman’s vision holding a lifetime’s collection, and has been featured on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World, ITV’s Gardens For All and Channel 4’s Bloom. How many hidden flower-pot men can the children spot during their trip around the world, and will they spot Katy Koala in Australia and the Yeti (before he spots them!)? Parking, picnic area and nursery entry are all free. A modest garden entry charge is made for adults but children go in free. The shop and tearooms serving light lunches, espresso coffee and home-made cakes have absolutely fantastic panoramic views over the River Teign Estuary to Dartmoor. Plant World is open from 9.30am till 5pm seven days a week from April to September inclusive. From the Penn Inn turn-off on the A380 follow signs to Milber and Combeinteignhead up the hill for approximately 50 metres and then turn sharp right. Plant World is 1.5 miles, at the very top of the long hill, on the left-hand side past the water gardens.
