Spencer's End

Our beautiful garden has year-round interest inc a sweeping semicircular wildflower bank, a rabbit proof, loosely planted, cottage style potager, a fruit cage, gravel garden beds, a woodland with a pond and a stumpery. The planting is designed to encourage birds, bees and butterflies. There is an apiary in the woodland containing four colonies of honey bees.

About Spencer's End

In 2014 we fell in love with the setting, as the garden hugs the house and moved in the August of that same year. After spending the first year renovating the house, we then moved onto the garden. The overall design was produced by my daughter. As gardening and growing is our passion, we do all of the planting and maintenance ourselves. Each year we have undertaken a new project, starting with the gravel garden and wild flower bank surrounding the house, this same year we also set up the fruit cage. The gravel garden contains a water feature made out of RSJ beams recycled from the house. The following year we started on the potager area which needed to be rabbit proof. This is the main growing area of the garden and takes up most of our time. Our most recent project was the pond in the woodland. The more formal parts of the garden slowly merge into woodland which starts the year with a carpet of, snowdrops followed by bluebells, red campion and nettles. There is an apiary in the woodland containing 4 colonies of honey bees. The planting is designed to encourage wildlife. There are ample places to sit and relax and enjoy the view and birdsong.
