About The Hollies
Walls and fences have been planted with climbers and trees, species chosen to blend in with the borrowed landscape. Raised beds, cordon apple trees, fruit bushes and planters are used to overcome the issue of a long driveway, making what could have been a neglected area both attractive and productive. Many plants now self-seed into available cracks in the drive, adding to the more natural feel of this space where fruit and flowers share common ground.
A Moon Gate leads to a circular lawn, where intensively planted borders plus trees create an intimate space in front of the house. A rose covered arch leads along the back of the house at the end of the which is an arbour – the perfect spot to escape the heat of the day. Turn the corner to see a fabulous view across farmland plus a selection of grasses. French doors on 2 sides of the house at the back makes a perfect secluded spot. This area has raised beds made from sleepers, large low aluminium planters for salad crops, an extensive array of culinary herbs as well as a small glasshouse.
The path leading to the courtyard is planted with bold and bright dahlias where bedding plants are used to enable varying ideas and colour schemes to be used on a year by year basis. In addition there is a long border packed with perennials and roses as well as a range of fruit trees planted in large pots. This area is the perfect spot for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
