About Cholmondeley Castle Gardens
The Cholmondeley Family have resided in this part of Cheshire since the Norman times and when the late Lavinia, Dowager Marchioness of Cholmondeley came to live at Cholmondeley she set about creating a ‘garden of great romance’ introducing many specimen trees and shrubs, including rare magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons. The beauty of the Temple Garden and its ornamental lake best highlights her skill, whilst the Folly Garden has a wilder feel from its pond through its naturalistic planting. The Rose Garden is an intimate place to be in summer whilst the Glade has colour and interest year round. Lady Lavinia’s legacy continues today including the spectacular 100m long double herbaceous border, a fitting tribute to her life in the gardens.
Tower Hill offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a woodland ramble among interesting shrubs and trees under-planted with many wild flowers and bulbs. Whilst the Deer Park Mere and nature trail offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the surroundings with magnificent views of Cholmondeley Castle. The Cafe is situated in the heart of the gardens and with the children’s play area and picnic area this is truly a garden for everyone young and old.
