About Horatio's Garden
The central water feature introduces a calming and therapeutic presence. Bird baths, feeders and berries encourage wildlife into the garden and the pollen and nectar rich plants attract insects and butterflies, bringing it to life.
The garden is planted with plenty of seasonal interest. The amelanchier trees and euonymus alatus turn fiery autumnal shades, whilst the sarcococca, honeysuckles, star jasmine and others have been chosen for their fine fragrance. Aromatic plants like salvias, fennel and rosemary are there to be touched and smelt. A winter flowering cherry brings uplifting cheer and leads us into spring where masses of flowering bulbs will introduce strong shots of colour. It is a wonderful summer and late summer garden with much to see, to smell and to touch.
The lighting extends the use of the garden into the evening but also creates dramatic compositions, especially when viewed from the inside.
A garden is never truly finished; it is an ever-evolving story which will develop over the years with patients and a wonderful team of volunteers, led by the Head Gardener.
We welcome you.
