Little Dinworthy

A wildlife garden and lake with young 22 yr old woodland. A developing garden with magnolias, flowering cherries and a variety of different specimen trees. Wild flowers abound encouraging multiple species in the many natural habitats. Around the house, box and yew topiary add a touch of fun and solidity to the profusion of growth. Meadow walks and children's woodland trail.

About Little Dinworthy

Little Dinworthy gardens started life in 2003 as a conventionally farmed small holding. Today, the once bare fields with their tightly clipped hedges now support an abundance of wildlife from a myriad of native flowers to a multitude of insects, bees butterflies, moths and dragonflies, and huge increases in the species of birds and animals, such as the long eared owl and our treasured dormouse.

The young wood continues to develop with a vision to create an ancient wood filled with bluebells and wild daffodils. It is a joyous process and wonderful to witness how, when conditions are right, native flowers spread very fast. The challenges of ash die back are counteracted by the opportunity to plant new and different species creating further habitats.

Along with the wood, a lake was built to add to the diversity of flora and fauna, attracting wild fowl with resident Little Grebes. Moorhens, wild ducks and a pair of nesting Canada Geese frequent the pond each year. It is a delight to watch swallows as they skim the water dipping in for a drink, and the huge increase in insects has encouraged many types of bats.

At Little Dinworthy cultivated plants harmonise and flourish with wild flowers creating a haven for dozens of our beloved bumblebees.

A conservatory has recently been added to house a variety of tender plants lengthening the enjoyment of flowers at either end of the growing season.

In Bradworthy Square, head towards Meddon/Hartland on North Rd. Take 2nd L to Dinworthy at North Moor X, & follow NGS signs. Lane entrance to Little Dinworthy will be on R.
