About Riverhill Himalayan Gardens
Riverhill has been the home of the Rogers family since 1840. It was purchased with the express intention of creating a fine garden and there are still specimen trees dating back to those early days as well as original introduction from such plant hunters as Hooker and Robert Fortune. It is a hillside garden and is divided between formal terraces and naturalised woodland. The grounds extend to about 12 acres.
Don’t miss the recently restored Edwardian Rock Garden, with extensive fern collection & gentle water cascades. In APRIL / MAY Significant historic collection of rhododendrons & azaleas, primrose meadow & drifts of daffodils. Follow the woodland walk to find colour, scent and tranquillity. Bluebells make an excellent foil to the vibrant tones of azaleas, hybrid rhododendrons and the copper leafed maples.
There are spectacular views! Between JUNE – SEPT enjoy fabulous Rose Walk, as well as rare and unusual shrubs growing against the sheltered walls. Re-landscaped Walled Garden including grass sculptured terracing and water feature, peony and allium border, vegetables, herbaceous planting.
