About Rose Ash House
Rose Ash House sits on a high, cool and wet ridge on the edge of Exmoor with views south to Dartmoor. The old gardens have been re-developed over 14 years, incorporating many old trees and plants, including roses over 125 years old. Old steps and features have been revealed, and new paths and avenues established. The soil is ideal for camelias, azaleas & rhodos, and hydrangeas (a particular feature of the garden) later in the season. We try to be pollinator-friendly!
A small kitchen-garden has been put in, and a polytunnel & green-houses help lengthen the vegetable growing-season.
A large area of grass has not been cut for eight years and the butterflies can be superb. The adjoining fields to the west still have a wide variety of old-fashioned meadow grasses & plants.
We hope Martyn Rix, renowned botanist and plant-collector will join us again to help identify & advise on plants you might want to bring. Melinda Hilliard, a garden-design consultant, will also be on hand to answer questions about garden-layouts etc.
Tea, scones & cakes etc. will be on sale, as will a selection of plants.
