About The Old Vicarage
Until 1996 an empty 2 acres of fenced pony paddocks surrounded a small main lawn – hence a blank canvas, once the fences were removed ! Transformed over 30yrs into a gorgeously beautiful, organic plant lovers’ garden, designed to make the most of natural sloping south facing undulations. Well-established peaceful rooms, surprises around every corner, borrowed views of hills and farmland in attractive village. Clematis and roses abound, balanced with a love of texture, shape, colour and fragrance – together with an artful eye for design and a love of unusual plants and trees, this garden gives huge pleasure all the year round. Abundant wildlife and a children’s haven. Above the pool views still visible across the valley. Swimming pool planting has matured to soften this hidden sun trap on the edge of woodland. At the bottom of the garden a new PassivHaus is being built – (apologies for Herris fencing) Visitors can meander through roughly mown paths, through from top garden to overlook a peaceful meadow with grazing cattle occasionally. Several benches and seating to rest/ponder/re-charge the batteries – bottom pond teaming with activity and lovely surrounding planting. Veg gdn/g’house in process of change. Variety of lots of delicious Aga baked cakes to add to your enjoyment on terraces and sweeping lawns in friendly, relaxed surroundings, served by a wonderful team of cheerful and generous friends. Always exciting, unusual plants of high quality for sale to enhance your own gardens !
(Beautiful 12th century Church within a short walk, open to visitors surrounded by peaceful attractive churchyard for contemplation and birdsong).
