(From: Your Garden , Practical Gardening, Dorset Life)

Created over the last 45 years and totally secluded among Scots and maritime pines, the garden offers enormous variety within its one acre sunny site. Winner of Poole ’s best large garden award, it is situated ¾ mile from the sea, but protected from salt laden winds. Whilst containing a large range of unusual and tender plants, the emphasis throughout are on design (‘green’ architecture, vistas and focal points). Striking foliage (more than a nod to Christopher Lloyd), and year round interest. Individual gardens include terracotta tiled courtyard, cherry tree walk, hot wall and terrace (with fountain set among restios ) herbaceous garden, rose garden, woodland and dry banks on which southern hemisphere plants thrive.
In spring the bold colours of daffodils, tulips, muscari and camellias are set against a softer backcloth of flowering cherries, hostas, hellebores and erythroniums. Summer sees more vibrant hues from roses, herbaceous borders and exotic plants from around the world.
A wide variety of planted pots and urns enhance summer colours with additional interest from box and bay topiary and natural wood sculptures. Collections of plants which help create the overall semi-tropical feel include bamboos, acacias, eucalyptus, agaves, oleanders, cordylines, palms, tree ferns.grevilleas, callistemons, phormiums and pittosporums. Mandevilla, banana, cannas, eriobotria, plumbago, pomegranite, echium, beschorneria, lemons, driymys and aeoniuums are some of the tender plants which thrive outdoors.
In the woodland area are a large collection of camellias which flower from December to May and hydrangeas set among acers and tulip, liquidamber, cercis, amelanchier, cornus and parottia persica trees.
