About Woodpeckers

Ahead of a major improvement work on the property, garden renovation and redesign started in 2021. To make the best use of space, three rooms were created, each with a different planting style and purpose to provide succession and year-round interest and colour. Sustainability and ‘green approach’ resulted in significantly reducing the size of lawn, incorporating a 7500 litre capacity rainwater harvesting tank and green roofs on all garden buildings, amongst other eco features. Modern living space links indoors with outdoors and provides year-round views into the garden, hence planting is designed to provide a dramatic change as the seasons progress. It has followed the ‘right plant in the right place’ principle in an experimental way to test the boundaries, experiment with planting combinations and horticultural techniques. Experience strong, vibrant colours in the jewels amphitheatre that comes to its best mid to late summer. Enjoy a romantic rose corner in early summer, with leafy textures and soft pastels around the shady social & entertaining space. Glasshouse used for propagation in spring bursts with homegrown produce later in the season. Work is ongoing to further develop ‘grow-your-own’ area with a collection of soft and top fruit as well as formation of a National Plant Collection of Nandina domestica.

Created in 2022, the garden has sustainability at its heart.
