About West Lavington Manor
The garden is in the grounds of a house (not open) with early origins dating from 1475 and extended over the years most recently in 1908. After the Norman conquest the manor was owned until the Dissolution by the Bishop of Salisbury. It is mentioned in Pevsner’s guide to Wiltshire. The garden is entirely surrounded by an old wall built in several different brick and local stone materials. The palladian style gate to the garden which is also listed Grade II was erected by John Danvers in the early 1600s following his Grand Tour. The garden within is divided into a naturally flowing range of areas. Its natural undulations around the stream give many different vistas with surprises around every corner. The emphasis has been on maintaining a very natural feel to the garden, even as we have spent time upgrading and replanting various features. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
