About Sunningdale

Sunningdale, is situated in the heart of the market town of Wem, where we are fortunate to have a flat half acre town garden.

Incorporating sculptural elements throughout the garden, to enhance the planting.
There is a large sunken area with koi pond and beautiful rockeries and waterfall.

The The garden also features a yew tree walkway, ( trees approximately 400 yrs.old) which creates a sound and pollution barrier from the road. Lawson Cypress trees have been cut down and unusual steel ferns top their high stumps, giving the impression of tree ferns.

There is a stumpery with a good collection of ferns and grasses. Large borders filled with perennials, climbers and unusual shrubs.

The 1911 house boasts a wonderful original Arts and Crafts kitchen from which teas will be served. A 1930’s Summer House is available to sit in to take shelter or just enjoy views of the garden. In 2020 a new all weather gazebo built, with plantings around, and in 2022 a solar roofed Loggia was completed in 2023.
The vegetable plots are varied and irrigated using a borehole on the property.

The garden is home to frogs, newts, dragonflies, solitary bees, and field mice and bank voles.
Visiting birds are very varied including the tiny Gold Crests, which regularly nest and tree creepers.
