Explore The Rock House
Nestled 1,000ft up in the Radnorshire Hills, The Rock House is a hillside garden with sweeping views out to its dramatic landscape. Over 25 years Garden Owners, Jude and Sue, have transformed the garden from a rocky clay-covered field with grazing cows to a relaxing and comfortable space.
A closer look…
Gardening high upon a windy Welsh hillside means a never ending battle with nature and the elements; Jude and Sue have learned the hard way to bolt their enormous greenhouse to some sturdy sleepers and try not to share the fruit and vegetables with the local wildlife – a full time job!
This once working land is now unrecognisable with hardy plants, raised beds, bog garden and a dry shady ‘woodland’ border. Jude and Sue have taken a nod to the gardens root’s with a grazed bluebell meadow beyond.
The Rock House takes advantage of its setting with many seats around the garden, from small hidden places for two to more formal decking areas. These spots offer the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.
To discover more, join Sue and Jude for a virtual garden visit, filmed the day of their original open day in May:
