Enjoyed by six generations of same family over 160 years. A beautifully landscaped terraced garden creating a classical and elegant atmosphere.The garden is divided into two sections; the upper section, connected to the Grade II listed house, the oldest part of the garden. The second section is at a lower level; with several ornate statues, stone urns and planters, here, the garden was created from scratch. Stunning views over the River Loughor. While it’s the garden you come to view, your first instinct will be to stop and admire the panoramic views over the countryside. The gardens are laid out for all seasons, bulbs and herbaceous in shrub borders. Water features with cascades down to a pond, surrounded by mixed borders and trees, offering shade. Originally the garden was covered with 40ft conifers. Cottage style, some unusual and mainly perennial plants which provide colour in spring, summer and autumn. The garden is an example of how to plan for all seasons. Visitors say it is like a secret garden because there are a number of hidden places. A hidden garden, in the shadow of Castell Coch, fed by a mountain stream, with a wooden footbridge to a naturalised, woodland area. There are wonderful late spring flower displays set against a woodland backdrop. Developed over many years with a wide variety of lavender beds and herbaceous borders, summerhouse, seating areas, greenhouse and vegetable area. A three acre hidden gem outside Bridgend. Entering the garden you find a small Japanese garden fed by a stream, this leads you to informal mixed beds and enclosed herbaceous borders. Ponds and rill are fed by a natural spring. A meadow with large lawns under new planting gives wonderful vistas over surrounding countryside new summerhouse with open views over the garden. A spacious and interesting garden with many features which inc a stunning natural waterfall, a meandering woodland stream which is covered by a canopy of entwined trees, a picturesque Japanese garden and beautiful lawned areas with winding pathways. Rose Cottage is an old fashioned Welsh cottage garden with jumbled flower beds, a herb yard and lots of fruit and vegetables. We borrow ideas from permaculture, no-dig and companion planting but in many ways- apart from a lovely big polytunnel which allows year-round growing. The garden at Rose Cottage is the same now as it has always been: simple, sustainable, pretty and productive. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 31 May to 16 August for groups of up to 6.
This family friendly garden started from a blank canvas nine years ago, initially laid to lawn. Raised vegetable beds were installed and a 75m natural hedge planted along the side boundary to encourage wildlife. This was supplemented with fruit trees, flower and herb borders to attract insects. The lawn provides a clearing to the surrounding forestry attracting a variety of birds. Large greenhouse. Opens for By Arrangement visits from July to 2 August.
An exotic small garden full of unusual and large plants and a pond. Banana plants, tree ferns, gunnera, Tetrapanax and a foxglove tree surround the garden. Ferns, Phormium, Brunnera, Brugmansia, Cordyline and giant reed add interest to the garden. An area of potted tropical plants, Canna, Alocasia, Colocasia, Strelitzia and palms add to the significant variety of exotic plants.
