By Arrangement gardens in the Isle of Wight

If you’re looking to organise a private visit to a garden, whether it be for a local group or for friends and family, a By Arrangement can provide something a little different. On the Isle of Wight there’s a range of gardens available for private By Arrangement visits, find out more below.

Crab Cottage, Shalfleet

1¼ acres on gravelly soil. Part glorious views across croquet lawn over Newtown Creek and Solent, leading through wildflower meadow to hidden water lily pond, secluded lawn and woodland walk. Part walled garden protected from westerlies with mixed borders, leading to terraced sunken garden with ornamental pool and pavilion, planted with exotics, tender shrubs and herbaceous perennials. Opens for By Arrangement visits all year round.

Morton Manor, Brading

A colourful garden of great plant variety. Mature trees inc many acers with a wide variety of leaf colour. Early in the season a display of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias and later many perenials, hydrangeas and hibiscus. Ponds, sweeping lawns, roses set on a sunny terrace and much more to see in this extensive garden surrounding a picturesque C16 manor house (not open). Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to October.

Ningwood Manor, nr Newport

A 3 acre, landscaped country garden divided into several areas: a walled courtyard, croquet lawn, white garden and kitchen garden. They flow into each other, each with their own gentle colour schemes; the exception to this is the croquet lawn garden which is a riot of colour, mixing oranges, reds, yellows and pinks. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 12 May to August for groups of up to 30.

Northcourt Manor Gardens, Shorwell

15 acre garden surrounding large C17 manor house (not open). Boardwalk along jungle garden. Stream and bog garden. A large variety of plants enjoying the different microclimates. Large collection of camellias and magnolias. Woodland walks. Tree collection. Salvias and subtropical plantings for autumn drama. Productive 1 acre walled kitchen garden. Numerous shrub roses. Formal parterre. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 15 March to 10 November for groups of between 5 and 40.

1 Union Road, Cowes

A south facing town garden with views of the Solent and plenty of sea air. Planting is tropical and takes full advantage of the many hours of sunshine. A combination of unusual plants from drier, arid environments, with lush planting in the zones towards the bottom of the garden. Specimen trees and beautiful walled garden area. A pond featuring wildlife and Mediterranean planting. Working area of the garden features grapevines and olive, apple, fig, citrus and walnut trees. A living agapanthus wall and finally, a herb wall within the outdoor kitchen. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 7 April to 22 September for groups of between 5 and 50.

163 York Avenue, East Cowes

Situated near Osborne House, this large colourful garden is packed with unusual hardy perennials and many lovely trees and shrubs. On the terrace is a large date palm, and beyond the main garden there are tropical plants and ferns. You then pass through a gate into a small meadow. There are plenty of seats with tables throughout this relaxing garden. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 15 May to 27 July for groups of between 10 and 20.
