King Charles III to continue as Patron of the National Garden Scheme
8 May 2024
“We are delighted to announce that His Majesty the King will continue as Patron of the National Garden Scheme,” says National Garden Scheme Chairman, Rupert Tyler. “His Majesty was Patron of the National Garden Scheme as The Prince of Wales from 2002 and we are extremely grateful that he will continue in the role as King Charles III.”
Speaking about his role as Patron, His Majesty said:
“For me, as Patron, the wonderful thing about the National Garden Scheme is its unique blend of Britishness – the marriage of nursing and gardens; the exemplary role of volunteers; the cumulative fundraising power of small events; the championing of local community activity and the celebration of what gardens can do for the benefit of us all. So I can only wish you all another happy year of garden visiting.”
In 2020, when Prince of Wales, His Majesty sent a warm message of support to the National Garden Scheme and its virtual visit campaign during the Covid-19 pandemic. Recorded in the garden of His Royal Highness’s Scottish home, Birkhall, it reminded people of the effectiveness of the National Garden Scheme’s fundraising and the importance of its support for nursing charities, along with the power of gardens for our health and wellbeing.
