25 Arlington, North Finchley

This stunning contemporary cottage garden, created over the last 6 yrs, is filled with scented roses. It features generous perennial borders, roses, shrubs, and interesting trees. There are several seating areas designed to catch the sun throughout the day. The garden also boasts a striking marble water feature, Archimedes wheel, which inspired the overall design. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 15 June to 15 September for groups of between 10 and 15.

Arundel & Ladbroke Gardens, Notting Hill

This private communal garden is one of the few that retains its attractive mid-Victorian design of lawns and winding paths. A woodland garden at its peak in spring, with rhododendrons, flowering dogwoods, early roses, bulbs, ferns, and rare exotics. Picnics welcome, and local bakeries and food shops nearby. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 30 April to September for groups of up to 25.

36 Ashley Road, Crouch Hill

A lush town garden, rich in texture, colour, and form, with a number of microhabitats inc ferneries, a bog garden, lily and wildlife ponds, rockeries, alpine troughs, and bespoke vertical planters. At its best in May, when Japanese maples display a great variety of shapes and colours, ferns unfurl fresh, vibrant fronds over the stream, and climbers burst into flower on the balcony and pergola. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 15 May to August for groups of up to 35.

75 Bampton Road, Forest Hill

A designer’s small garden, set in a tranquil, tree lined oasis behind a modernist terrace near Forest Hill Station. The garden is defined by strong architectural features, like espaliered crab apples, yew and box topiary, and steel water tanks. Planting is dense and lush in early summer, with peonies, grasses, and hostas, building to an exuberant autumn display. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 2 March to November for groups of up to 20.

190 Barnet Road, Barnet

Walled garden, 90ft x 36ft, with a modern design and year-round interest. A handmade copper pipe trellis divides the space into contrasting areas. Herbaceous planting and bulbs drift around trees, shrubs, and a pond. A kitchen garden with soft fruit and vegetables. Upcycled containers, recycled objects, and home-made sculptures. Gravel garden areas are never watered. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 18 May to 30 August for groups of between 5 and 30.

Bryan's Jungle, Waltham Cross

Small courtyard garden transformed into ‘Bryan’s Jungle’, with many exotic trees and shrubs inspired by Matthew Kettle’s tropical garden in Lake Worth, Florida. Walls clad with a collection of vintage advertising signs. Statuary and architectural salvage lurk in shady alleys. Every corner tells a story. Bryan worked as gardener/historian at Myddelton House for 34 yrs, gleaning extensive knowledge. Opens for By Arrangement visits from June to 15 October for groups of between 10 and 15.

5 Burbage Road, Herne Hill

The garden of a member of the Society of Botanical Artists and a regular writer for Hortus journal. 150ft x 40ft, with large and varied range of plants, inc many unusual. Herbaceous borders for sun and shade, climbing plants, pots, terraces, and lawns. Immaculate topiary. Gravel areas to reduce watering. All box has been removed due to blight and moth damage, and replaced with suitable alternatives to maintain a similar look. Opens for By Arrangement visits from March to June.

40 Chartfield Avenue, Putney

Famous for its Mediterranean feel, this layered garden features clipped hedges, topiary, and pleached hornbeam on the terrace, contrasting with a riot of grasses and perennials around the main circular pathway. Tumbling climbers cover pergolas, with vast borders and shady seating areas. 15 yrs in the making, with over 30 new trees, it is particularly delightful in spring and autumn. Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to November.

51 The Chase, Clapham

Charles, past Chairman of Society of Garden Designers, and Rupert, Chairman of NGS and Garden Museum have created the garden over 40 yrs. Spectacular in spring when 2500 tulips bloom among camellias, irises and tree peonies. Scented front garden. Rupert’s geodetic dome shelters seedlings, succulents and the subtropical. Roses, brugmansia, hibiscus and dahlias later in the season. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 15 March to 30 October for groups of up to 30.

52 The Chase, Clapham

52 The Chase is a newly created garden which inc existing and established planting. Garden designer Charles Rutherfoord worked closely with the owners to make a space of calm and quiet reflection as well as for entertaining. Old climbing roses and well established camellias fuse with acers and hydrangeas. A stunning cascade links the terraced beds of tree ferns, hostas, and Musa. Darley stone and Gault brick paviours add to the sense of sanctuary and harmony. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 16 March to 1 September for groups of between 5 and 10.

100 Colne Road, Twickenham

Enchanting first floor roof garden above 1850s workers cottage with converted 1950s studios, and artist workshops to the rear. Access via wide spiral staircase to sheltered garden 9 x 8 metres, intensively planted and fully containerised. Trees, shrubs, climbers, subtle annual perennial plant combinations and new 7 x 10 metre rear extensive roof area with biodiverse mix of sedums and wild flowers. Not suitable for those who are unsteady on their feet. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 21 June to 2 August for groups of between 5 and 6.

7 Deansway, East Finchley

A garden of stories, statues, shapes, and structures surrounded by trees and hedges. Bird friendly and cottage style, with scented roses, clematis, mature shrubs, a weeping mulberry, and abundant planting. Containers, spring bulbs, and grapevine provide year-round colour. A secret, shady and wild woodland area with ferns and a tiny water feature continues to be developed. Opens for By Arrangement visits from March to July for groups of between 10 and 30.

6 Eglington Road, Chingford

‘The Secret Garden’: a little oasis of calm, with something to enchant around every corner. The garden of this 1920s property was redesigned and created in 2019. From the terrace with containers of bamboo, wisteria, and laurel, steps lead to raised beds filled with lavender, roses, clematis, dahlias, and shrubs. These provide a haven for birds, bees, and butterflies, while a water feature soothes the senses. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 3 May to 4 September for groups of between 5 and 18.

Fernveil Gardens, New Barnet

Fernveil Gardens offers a 65 metre wander around arid beds, tropical plants, a fernery, and woodland, ending in a bamboo forest and a Mongolian yurt. It was created in 2020 during lockdown, and this vibrant 4 yr old garden is now thriving and ready for you to enjoy. Discover a carnivorous plant greenhouse, a pond with fish and frogs, large wood sculpture, and seating areas. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to October for groups of up to 20.

33 Hampstead Lane, Highgate

Lush south facing walled garden bounded by Hampstead Heath with mature trees, no-mow lawn, and shady patios under a mirrored trellis. Features inc a herbaceous border, fern garden, hot dry banks and a pond. A wild area with compost and wood store can be seen under the apple tree. Opens for By Arrangement visits from June to July for groups of up to 10.

Hampton House, Hampton

Step off the High Street into this secluded garden of half an acre that stretches from an elegant Queen Anne house (not open) to its border with Bushy Park. A long herbaceous border, large lawn and well established trees inc a pair of 200 yr old yew, as well as mulberry and cherry trees. A wonderful vista from the terrace enjoys the borrowed landscape of Bushy Park. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 12 April to 28 June for groups of between 8 and 20.

26 Hillcroft Crescent, Wembley Park

Small cottage front garden with arched entrance featuring a cloud tree, wisteria, yucca, canna, hydrangeas, roses, and lilies. Rear garden approx 70 x 80ft, with summerhouse, arbours, and water features. Planting inc a ‘pagoda fig tree’, apple, pear, olive, banana, and soft fruits. Ten distinct flower beds, each with its own particular interest, with feature plants, unusual shrubs, and exotics. Opens for By Arrangement visits from June to 24 July for groups of between 10 and 40.

48 Hungerford Road, London

Evolved over 20 yrs, this large, bi-level Victorian garden, set on London clay, features varied formations of colour and foliage each year. Tall trees loom over generous beds, rampant with flowering shrubs, roses, perennials, and bulbs. Climbers adorn the perimeter, creating elegant vistas that showcase striking modernist sculptures, stonework, and a very unusual extension. Opens for By Arrangement visits all year.

57 Huntingdon Street, Islington

A secluded woodland garden room beneath an ash canopy, framed by a timber palisade supporting roses, hydrangeas, and clematis. An understorey of silver birch and hazel provides a setting for shade loving ferns, perennials, grasses, and a bog garden, and is framed by two container ponds, reclaimed brick pathways, and bench seating. New for 2026: a water feature by sculptor Andrew Revell. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to July for groups of up to 12.

84 Lavender Grove, Hackney

Courtyard garden with tropical backdrop of bamboos and palms, foil to clipped shrubs leading to wilder area, the cottage garden with mingling roses, lilies, alliums, grasses, clematis, poppies, star jasmine and jasmine. A very highly scented garden with rampant ramblers and billowing vegetation enchanting all senses. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 8 April to 24 September for groups of between 5 and 20.

Long Cottage, Pinner

A photographer’s garden. A large, colourful suburban garden enclosed by trees and various types of bamboo. The lawn with raised beds and several tranquil seating areas offering alternative vistas. A patio displays a range of potted plants, providing a spectrum of colour. Planting inc a variety of shrubs, roses, clematis, and perennials, all designed to showcase colour, leaf design, and texture. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to September.

119 Mortlake Road, Kew

Thoughtful combinations of form and colour create a stunning summer display. The deep beds are colour themed and packed with a wide range of perennials. A lush ‘fernarium’ gives way to pastel cottage planting. On the garden’s sunny side, a riot of colour bursts from an impressive ‘hot’ border. With something new around every corner, this garden shows the potential of an ordinary sized town garden. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 4 May to 10 July for groups of between 6 and 25.

The Mysteries of Light Rosary Garden, Kentish Town

A walled garden behind the Priory Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and St Dominic, commissioned by the Dominican Friars as a spiritual and meditative space representing the ‘Mysteries of Light’ of the Holy Rosary. A sandstone path marks out a Rosary with black granite beads, surrounded by flowers traditionally associated with the Virgin Mary: roses, lilies, iris, periwinkle, and columbine. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to September.

15 Norcott Road, Stoke Newington

Large walled garden with aged fruit trees, a pond, and an abundance of herbaceous plants, a kind of cottage garden but in London. Open by arrangement only. Fix your date and time with the owner. You are welcome to stay as long as you like; there is plenty of space to sit and enjoy tea and cake. Plants are available depending on the season, and the garden can be enjoyed at any time of year. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 12 January to November.

5 Northampton Park, London

The transformation of a ‘rescue garden’: this once neglected, south facing walled garden, dating from the 1840s, now regularly opens. Reopened in 2025 after a complete redesign, we have blended traditional and tropical planting to highlight colour, sunlight, and space. By spring 2026, we hope the garden will begin to show its new character. WC available. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 1 October for groups of up to 20.

21 Oakleigh Park South, London

A mature garden over 200ft, with a lawn framed by a magnificent 100 yr old ash tree with its tree seat. A path leads to a large pond area, fed by a natural spring within landscaped terraced paving. Beyond this lies a herb and vegetable area, an orchard with bulbs and wild flowers, and the working part of the garden. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 4 May to 26 July for groups of between 10 and 25.

1A Primrose Gardens, Hampstead

A hidden oasis in the heart of Belsize Park, cool and relaxing. Planted with various microclimates for surrounding buildings, walls, and the desire for privacy. Mirrors help create a sense of intrigue. Densely planted for texture and revolving seasonality, with tree ferns, foxgloves, clematis, ferns, salvias, and lilies. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 22 May to 20 September for groups of between 10 and 35.

42 Risingholme Road, Harrow

A stunning, paved 120ft long garden packed with plants, divided into themed areas inc a raised bed vegetable garden, a large aviary, a beehive, and a summerhouse. A shady garden that makes the most of every space! Opens for By Arrangement visits from 4 May to September for groups of between 5 and 20.

27 St Peters Square, British Grove

This long, secret space, is a plantsman’s eclectic semi-tamed wilderness. Created over the last 12 yrs it contains lots of camellias, magnolias and fruit trees. Much of the hard landscaping is from skips and the whole garden is full of other people’s unconsidered trifles of fancy inc a folly and summerhouse. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 1 June.

57 St Quintin Avenue, London

Award-winning 30 x 40ft garden, now in its 40th consecutive year of opening for the NGS! A diverse selection of plants, inc shrubs chosen for their foliage effects. Patio with colour themed bedding. Clever use of mirrors and plant associations. Good selection of climbers and wall shrubs. This year’s special display commemorates the centenary of the birth of Britain’s longest reigning monarch, HM Queen Elizabeth II. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 5 July to 23 August.

5 St Regis Close, Muswell Hill

Cornucopia of sensual delights. Artist’s garden famous for architectural features and delicious cakes. Baroque temple, pagodas, Raku tiled mirrored wall conceals plant nursery. American Gothic shed overlooks Liberace terrace and stairway to heaven. Maureen Lipman’s favourite garden; combines colour, humour, trompe l’oeil with wildlife friendly ponds, waterfalls, weeping willow, lawns and abundant planting. A unique experience awaits! An intensely exotic Mediterranean and subtropical paradise garden! A sunny deck with implausible planting and panoramic views of Harrow and Wembley plunges into an incredibly exotic, densely planted oasis of delight, with two further seating areas engulfed by flowers such as acacia, abutilon, eryngium, hedychium, plumbago, salvias, and hundreds more in vigorous competition.
