Sussex garden lined up for BBC Gardeners’ World appearance next season
Following the feature on Chris and Robin Hutt’s magical garden at Fairlight End in the June edition of Gardens Illustrated, the production team for BBC Gardeners’ World got in touch, wanting to film for the 2017 series.
Chris tells us “this tied in really well with our latest planning for the garden. Our new winter garden is between the house and the road, where we come and go all year. We particularly need cheering up November to April.”
So… The pair had commissioned award winning garden designer, Ian Kitson to design this section of their plot. He came up with an incredible 30 metre sinuous steel wall as part of the concept – we think it looks fantastic!
The BBC crew filmed the installation of the wall and were there to film the planting of the beds.
Chris went on to tell us that “the real stars of the show are 4 mature witch hazels, beautifully supported by free form clipped groups of hornbeam, hawthorn, yew and holly. These have then been under planted with hellebores, euphorbia, brunnera, pulmonaria, ferns and many spring bulbs.”
We can’t wait to see the film when it airs on the programme in 2017. However, you can go along and see the finished results yourself when the garden opens for the National Garden Scheme on 24th and 25th June.
