In 2025, the National Garden Scheme is donating £25,000 to support The Country Trust’s Food Discovery Programme. This initiative provides hands-on food education for primary-aged children, helping them connect with the land, grow and cook their own produce; supporting their physical and mental wellbeing.
The Country Trust, a UK-based educational charity founded in 1978, is dedicated to connecting children from areas of highest disadvantage with food, farming and the countryside. Its mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to discover the connections between the food they eat, their own health and the health of the planet.
Through our partnership, the National Garden Scheme and The Country Trust share a commitment to inspiring future generations. Gardening and food education have proven benefits for children’s health and wellbeing, fostering resilience, curiosity, and a connection to nature.
As the National Garden Scheme approaches its centenary in 2027, this collaboration highlights the importance of reaching young people and making gardening and food education accessible to all.
