The National Garden Scheme supports Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s Future Gardeners. Launched in 2016, Future Gardeners is the environmental and volunteering charity’s innovative free training and work experience programme.
The programme is open to all who want to try out a career in gardening and is designed to promote outdoor careers and address skills shortages in the horticulture industry. No previous experience or specialist education is needed.
Through hands-on learning and supported study, participants complete pre-apprenticeship training and a City & Guilds qualification, giving them the core skills they need to gain entry level jobs. 76% of Future Gardeners who completed the course are now working in the horticultural industry.
Bankside Open Spaces Trust connects Future Gardeners with key employers in the sector, including some at London’s finest parks and gardens. Since 2016, nearly 300 people have gone through the Future Gardeners programme. Thanks to the support of organisations like the National Garden Scheme, you’ll find Future Gardeners working or studying across the capital’s green spaces.
