Brampton is a medium sized garden created over the last 2 years from an undeveloped plot. Mount House occupies a ½ acre of walled gardens overlooked by St Sampson’s Church. Architect designed, the gardens are undergoing a substantial restoration, having been neglected for many years. The designs includes herbaceous borders containing rare species in variety, grassed mounds, lawns, trees, shrubs, ferns, glasshouse, water-feature, and sculpture. It is very much a work in progress. A wild wellbeing garden of approx 8 acres inc meadow walks, labyrinth, ponds, courtyard garden, orchard and polytunnels. Over 20 yrs, we have lovingly developed this unconventional garden, also home to a probiotic brewery, which works with the invisible architects of life: soil-based microbes. An atmospheric and very long town garden, full of wonderful planting surprises at every turn. Densely planted with pots near the house and large borders further up, it houses a collection of beautiful and often unusual plants, shrubs and trees, many with striking foliage. Extensively developed since 2020, Teasel’s 11 acres inc long herbaceous borders, a lake and ½m riverside walk. Recently added potager, shrub border, hoggin pathways through orchard to fruit store, Monet inspired bridge, duck house on small pond, water lilies, specimen trees, chess pavilion and croquet lawn. A C15 manor house with spectacular 5 acre walled garden, established by Sir John Danvers, who brought the Italianate garden to the UK. Delightful aspects inc a Laburnum walk, replanted herbaceous border, an authentic Japanese garden, new Mulberry rotunda, orchard with 25 different apple and pear species, an arboretum with outstanding specimen trees and lake with duck house. Whilst overflowing with roses in June, in Jan and Feb the bones of this ⅔ acre galanthophile’s garden on chalk are on show. Brick and flint walls, terraces, rustic arches, gates and pond add character. Drifts of snowdrops carpet the floor whilst throughout is a growing collection of well over 500 named varieties. Working in harmony with nature, Westwind is a relaxed informal country garden set in 4 acres inc a 2½ acre meadow and woodland. It hosts the weekly outdoor learning for the village school and welcomes artists and photographers throughout the seasons. Westwind has an abundance of mature trees, beds full of herbaceous plants and 10 raised beds stuffed with colour from April to October. Visits by arrangement 11 May to 14 June for groups of up to 15. The garden was started in 2010, following completion of the house. It consists of formal gardens round the house, perennial meadow, pinetum and arboretum. Nick Macer & James Hitchmough, who have pioneered the concept of perennial meadows, have been extensively involved in aspects of the garden, which is still developing.
