We are delighted to announce that His Majesty the King will continue as Patron of the National Garden Scheme.
His Majesty was Patron of the National Garden Scheme as The Prince of Wales from 2002 and we are extremely grateful that he will continue in the role as King Charles III.
Each year our Little Yellow Book of Gardens and Health marks Gardens and Health Week and this year we’re celebrating the joy that gardens bring to so many!
From gardens built in healthcare settings and top tips from our garden owners to ponds designed for wildlife and community spaces there’s so much to enjoy.
The National Garden Scheme is excited about our show garden at the 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower Show this May. Designed by eight times RHS Gold Medal winner, Tom Stuart-Smith, and sponsored by Project Giving Back, the garden will exemplify the joy and associated health and wellbeing benefits of garden visiting that have been at the heart of the National Garden Scheme since 1927. Getting 2024 off to a positive start, Emma Bridgewater and David Austin® have announced their charitable collaboration in support of the National Garden Scheme. There’s a fabulous Bring Me Sunshine mug honouring the joyful Bring Me Sunshine® (Ausernie) English rose and an exclusive open weekend with David Austin this June.
By opening your garden, you’re not only giving people a great day out – you’re also raising money to help those in need. In 2023, garden openings meant we could give over £3.4 million to our beneficiary charities. What’s more, you’ll join a community of thousands of other like minded garden owners, all passionate about great gardens and raising money for great causes.
Over 550 volunteers support the opening of National Garden Scheme gardens each year. From serving teas to promoting the gardens and manning the gate, there are lots of ways to get involved. And, as Naman Chaudhary explains, it couldn’t be more fun.
This record donation represents a superlative achievement by the garden owners and county team volunteers who together worked tirelessly to host open days at 3,389 gardens across the year.
Commenting, National Garden Scheme Chairman Rupert Tyler said: “The contribution of the charities that we support has been increasingly vital. Their reach and impact, in cancer and end of life care, in community health and nursing and in particular areas such as people living with Parkinson’s, is immense and we are proud to be a major long-term supporter of them all.”
