A place for connection, inspiration, and community

For anyone opening their garden for the first time hard work and moments of anxiety are part of the process, but the rewards say Chris and Sally Robinson, are both wonderful and humbling.
The late summer sun shone down on Harewood in Disley, casting a golden glow over the gardens on September 6th. It was a day of triumph, a testament to passion and hard work, as the gates opened for the National Garden Scheme. The air buzzed with anticipation, and it was a pleasure to see it so richly rewarded.
We were humbled and overjoyed to welcome over 165 visitors, each one bringing with them an appreciation for horticulture and a spirit of community. The feedback was a narrative in itself -warm, positive, and deeply encouraging. Many guests took the time to share their thoughts, and we were particularly touched to hear our gardens compared favourably to esteemed places like Lyme Park and RHS Bridgewater. Such comparisons speak volumes about the unique character and charm of Harewood Disley, a testament to its beauty and the intimate experience it offers.
Our day was made when we were told “Your garden is an absolute gem. It’s easy to forget about everything else when you’re here.”
This success would not have been possible without the support of so many. Our heartfelt thanks go to Liz Mitchell for her wonderful photography (see garden photos below) and article in Cheshire Life magazine, which helped to spread the word and capture the essence of our work. We are also deeply grateful to the Disley Horticultural Society and Disley Council for their mentions in their newsletters, which were instrumental in reaching our local community.
A special note of appreciation is reserved for Stuart Cornes, our Vicar at St Mary’s Church in Disley. Alongside his team of dedicated and friendly volunteers, they ran the refreshments stall, creating a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere. Their efforts were not only a delight for our visitors but also a magnificent success for the Church’s restoration fund, raising a stunning £600. It is a true reflection of the generosity and collaborative spirit that makes our village so special.
To every person who visited, who donated, and who shared their positive feedback, thank you. Your support means the world to us. It reinforces our belief that a garden is more than just a collection of plants; it is a place for connection, inspiration, and community. We are incredibly proud of what we achieved together.
Make a note in your 2026 diary to visit Harewood Disley, Stockport, Cheshire when they open again for the National Garden Scheme in June and September.
