Berkshire gardens open in April

As the days get longer and the spring brings a change in the weather, there’s plenty of opportunities to get out and explore a garden in Berkshire, find out more about gardens opening in April below…

St Timothee, Pinkneys Green

A 2 acre country garden planted for year-round interest with a variety of different colour themed borders each featuring a wide range of hardy perennials, bulbs, shrubs and ornamental grasses. Also inc a box parterre, wildlife pond, rose terrace, areas of long grass and beautiful mature trees, all set against the backdrop of a 1930s house. This year there will be one open day (8 June) and a series of Talk & Walk events on a variety of topics; the April opening will focus on The Joy of Spring Bulbs. Events start promptly with an illustrated slideshow talk and home-made teas followed by time to explore the garden. Opens Tuesday 1st April.

The Old Rectory, Farnborough

8 acre garden with a series of immaculately tended garden rooms. Herbaceous borders, arboretum, secret garden, roses, vegetables, pool, bog gardens and woodland, with an explosion of rare and interesting plants, beautifully combined for colour and texture. Stunning views and once home to John Betjeman (memorial window by John Piper in church). Specialist plants and home-made preserves for sale. Opens Sunday 13th April.

Deepwood Stud Farm, Stubbings

4 acres of formal and informal gardens within a 25 acre stud farm. A formal rose garden with fountain, a walled herbaceous border with windows through which to admire the views and horses, two rock gardens, and hot plant terrace. Small lake with Monet style bridge and pergola. Several neo-classical follies and statues. A planted woodland area with a winding path. Opens Sunday 13th April.

Rooksnest, Lambourn Woodlands

Approx 10 acre, exceptionally fine traditional English garden. Rose garden, herbaceous garden, pond garden, herb garden, fruit, vegetable and cutting garden and glasshouses. Many specimen trees and fine shrubs, orchard and terraces. Garden designed by Arabella Lennox-Boyd. Opens Wednesday 30th April.
