To celebrate our 175th Anniversary, Bradfield College is proud to open its gardens for the NGS. Set in the Pang Valley, the beautifully tended grounds are surrounded by brick and flint buildings dating from 1850. Features inc Quad and Sunken Gardens, and a rare chance to view inside the College’s Greek Theatre and St Andrew’s Church, now converted into a stunning Study Centre. Opens Sunday 1st June.
A characterful urban wildlife friendly garden imaginatively rewilded. The garden offers the relaxing sense of a walk in the countryside. An inviting path winds past wildflower islands, through a rose covered arch, to a pollinators paradise garden and small pond. Tree trunks creatively recycled and a chicken run are added features. A 2 acre country garden planted for year-round interest with a variety of different colour themed borders each featuring a wide range of hardy perennials, bulbs, shrubs and ornamental grasses. Also inc a box parterre, wildlife pond, rose terrace, areas of long grass and beautiful mature trees, all set against the backdrop of a 1930s house. This year there will be one open day (8 June) and a series of Talk & Walk events on a variety of topics; Creating a Garden for All Seasons (3 Apr, 12 Jun & 6 Nov). Events start promptly with an illustrated slideshow talk and home-made teas followed by time to explore the garden.

Discover this attractive suburban secret garden behind a pretty red brick cottage. Inviting paths weave around a curving island bed surrounded by long borders packed with interesting plants reflecting the passion of its owner. Features inc rose and clematis covered arches, pots with gunnera, figs, hostas and ferns. Towering palms, acers and magnolia trees offer shelter and seclusion. Opens Sunday 8th and Sunday 29th June with Broom Acres.
The main garden has primarily exotic and Mediterranean planting with small paths through some of the beds, inviting you to take a closer look. This leads into a kitchen garden with greenhouse, chickens and ducks. There is a small woodland garden with stumpery and fire pit. The garden has plenty of places to sit and relax. Swallowfield is offering 12 gardens plus allotments (30 plots) to visit with 8 gardens in the village itself and 4 gardens and the allotments just outside. The 8 village gardens can be reached on foot from the village parking with the 4 gardens and allotments outside the village requiring a car or bicycle. Each garden is different and provides its own character and interest. Swallowfield nestles in the countryside by the Blackwater and Loddon rivers with an abundance of wildlife and lovely views.
